Two days to go before Sun 'n Fun 2018 takes of in Lakeland, Florida, and the exhibit area is full of trucks delivering all of the dimply items and products that pilots can imagine! Aircraft are flying in to find their spots and tractor-trailer rigs are headed in every direction as items as diverse as a free-standing hangar door and intricate aircraft models are delivered to their places.
Volunteers are everywhere, rigging signs, delivering water, and sprucing up the grounds - all in anticipation of the first big flying of the year.
The weather so far has been surprising - better than predicted, and aside from a brief, thin line of thunderstorms that rolled quickly through the area Saturday night, it was decent VFR all weekend, with no big blocking weather across the northern end of Florida, as has been the case for several years in a row before the start of the event. Our crystal ball can't predict the future, but comparing forecast to actual, things are looking up, and we hope that the predictions of rain for the next few days are as far off as last night's prognostication for today turned out to be.
