Reno Air Race logo

Calling all racing fans and artists! The Reno Air Racing Association today launched a design contest for the official poster and t-shirts of the 54th National Championship Air Races.

“The Reno Air Racing Association is looking for fresh and new designs that represent the spirit of air racing to place on our collectible posters for the 54th National Championship Air Races,” Mike Crowell President and CEO of the Reno Air Racing Association said. “Entries should center on the idea of racing – which is what we are all about. We look forward to seeing the ideas our fans have.” Continue reading "RARA Announces Design Contest for 54th National Championship Air Races"

Thanks for the many entries that were sent in for this month's photo contest! It's clear that lots of you are proud of your panels, and whittling them down to the traditional four was tough - but here they are! Sadly, no one sent in a truly traditional choice, like the Editor in Chief's favorite, the Pietenpol above (from a Kitplanes file photo). But, he's not eligible to nominate or vote - so take your pick of the four modern pictures below and vote here.

Vote for the Best Workshop

As homebuilders, we're partial to well organized shops - they help us keep the project on track and it's no secret that many award winning airplanes came from shops that reflect the builder's desire to impress.

We need your votes! Visit the voting page and choose your favorite.

My wife agreed to let me build a RV but not in our garage! So after a year long battle with the local township, I built a pole barn just behind my house. Not as big as I wanted but good enough. The photo attached does not show how nice it turned out and there are dozens of features designed into it for the purpose of building the RV, but I wanted to point out the most amazing feature of all. I built a three dimentional overhead crane system that just about allowed me to build this project single handed! It is built from surplus and used steel and hoist from my business that had been setting around for years. The only parts I had to purchase were the end trucks. All in all, it helped to make the build very enjoyable. Some other features are radiant heat, air-conditioning, lots of electrical, enough light to make you want to wear sun glasses, all season insulation, metal walls for sticking magnets to with documents, a built in paint booth, storage, music, etc. A great place to hang out in.
