Garmin announced several new enhancements and an expanded feature set for the Garmin Pilot application on Apple and Android mobile devices. New for Android, Garmin Pilot customers can now access synthetic vision (SVX), as well as pilot-configurable checklists within the app. Customers using Garmin Pilot on an Apple mobile device can take advantage of weight and balance calculations tailored to helicopter operators, Search and Rescue (SAR) options and more. With the latest upgrade, both platforms also offer connectivity with the GDL 52/GDL 51 portable receivers, the D2 Charlie aviator watch and the VIRB 360 camera. Garmin introduces industry-first, all-in-one portable ADS-B and SiriusXM Aviation receiver

Garmin announced the GDL 52/51, a series of portable receivers that are capable of receiving Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) traffic and weather, as well as SiriusXM Aviation weather1 and audio for display and control on select portables and mobile devices. The flagship GDL 52 combines all of these functions into a single device, while the GDL 51 specifically provides SiriusXM1 Aviation weather and audio entertainment. Both variants also receive GPS position data and display back-up attitude information2 within compatible portable devices. Garmin 470 Touchscreen Portrait Displays - First Look

When Garmin introduced the G3X Touch displays as an upgrade to the original G3X a few years ago, they did so with a large screen, landscape format screen that provided plenty f room to display everything a pilot needed to navigate and monitor aircraft systems. They followed it up with a 7" landscape display for those that wanted a secondary display, but had limited panel space. Neither of these fit in the place of the original G3X 370/375 portrait format displays, making upgrading to the faster touch screens difficult for some.
